The new Wallace Athletic Director has reported for duty.
John Rushing officially began his new job at Wallace on Monday morning.
The past few weeks have been very busy for Rushing. He had to finish up his duties at Chipola College, where he served as assistant athletic director for the past five years. In his final two weeks, he traveled with the school's softball team to Clearwater, where they competed in the Florida state softball tournament. After that, he was with the team in Yuma, Arizona, as they competed in the World Series. That tournament ended just days before he had to report to his new job in a different state. He's been so busy that he hasn't even had an opportunity to find a place to live in Dothan.
But now he's settling into his new role at Wallace.
Since his arrival on Monday, Rushing has been in several meetings, getting acquainted with his coaching staff, and introducing himself to the Wallace family and staff.
Some of those staff members are already letting Rushing know their vision of the Wallace athletic department. In their casual meet and greet, Melissa Mason and Savannah Granberry just happened to mention some of their long-range ideas for the program.
Rushing's office is located in the Community Enrichment Center, which coincidentally is located near the baseball and softball training facility. He joked about having one of the larger offices on campus and the largest desk. The office is being converted from a conference room, and his current desk is a large conference table.
