Mason Koczwara named an All-American

Another giant baseball will soon be added to the outfield fence on the Wallace College baseball field. That's because Mason Koczwara has just been named to the 2025 NJCAA Division II All-America Baseball Team. All-America selections are made by the NJCAA Division II Baseball Committee.

Koczwara was named the Second Team All-Americans. He is one of only two players from the entire state of Alabama to be named an All-American. The other is Jabe Boroff of Enterprise State.

This is just the latest award Koczwara has received. Earlier this year he was named the ACCC Pitcher of the Year. Koczwara finished the season with an earned run average of only 1.47and 80 strikeouts. Both of those led the state.

"I am so grateful to Wallace College and Coach (Ryan) Ihle," Koczwara said when reached at his home in the Miami area. "I was in a bad place this past fall just looking for a place to play. But Coach Ihle and the rest of the guys welcomed me with open arms. It made all the difference in the world for me."

Koczwara said one of the main things Ihle taught him was how to "turn my brain off."

"I'm a big over thinker," he said. "Whenever I get into trouble it's because I think too much. Coach Ihle reminded me to go back to Little Leage. It's a game and I should enjoy it and not think too much."

"Mason was a vital part of our team this past season," Ihle said. "He played a major role in our success and championship run. He's a hard worker and deserves every award he gets. I'm sure he'll have success at the next level."

Koczwara also shared some additional news. He has become the seventh player from the Govs 2025 Championship team to sign a scholarship with a four-year school. He is headed to FIU (Florida International University).

He's not the only member of his family to be involved in baseball. His younger brother Hudson will be attending Wallace College this fall. His father Fred is the CFO of the Miami Marlins.
