Start here, go anywhere. That could certainly be a motto for the Wallace Gov baseball team.
Many former Wallace players have proven they can start here and go on to have success at the next level. Some of the players who starred at Wallace are now stars at their four-year schools. Some have led their new teams in many statistical areas. Here's what some of those players did during this year's regular season.
- The most recognizable name is former Gov Kade Snell, who was named team captain for the University of Alabama before the season began. Snell went on to lead the Crimson Tide with a batting average of .374. That batting average was also the second highest in the SEC. Snell hit 10 home runs, 13 doubles, and one triple. Snell also had 50 RBIs, scored 47 runs, had 35 walks, and only struck out 16 times the entire year.
- Sean Darnell only hit one home run while at Wallace. But in his first game at Troy University, he hit two. He ended the year with six homers, 14 doubles, and two triples. Darnell had a batting average of .285, and his 65 hits led the team. He also had 48 RBIs and scored 49 runs.
- At Western Kentucky, Carlos Vasquez batted .377 this year. He had 78 hits, four of which were home runs. His 20 doubles led the team, and he had one triple. Vasquez had 35 RBIs, and he scored 50 runs.
- Colton Dorsey is now pitching for the University of West Florida. In 12 appearances, Dorsey had an earned run average of 2.84 in 25.3 innings. He struck out 22.
- Former catcher Grayson Ashe is now playing at Jacksonville State University. In addition to his defensive prowess, Ashe batted .308, hit 11 home runs, and had eight doubles for the Gamecocks. He also had 39 RBIs and scored 32 runs.
- Warrick Wilmot bat .324 for Columbus State. Of his 61 hits, the first baseman hit nine home runs, 13 doubles, had 54 RBIs, and scored 37 runs.
- Brody Capps had a successful year at the University of Tennessee-Martin. Capps hit .302 and had 61 hits. Of those hits, seven were home runs and 10 were doubles. He also had 54 RBIs and scored 40 runs.
- Miles White is playing third base for Southeastern University Fire. He hit .284 on the season with seven doubles, one triple, three home runs, and 28 RBIs.

White is one of three former Govs playing in the post season. His Fire team is currently playing in the NAIA World Series. Snell's Alabama team will be playing in the Southern Miss Regional this weekend, while Vasquez and Western Kentucky will be playing in the Ole Miss Regional in Hattiesburg.
"First and foremost, it's a testament to those individuals," baseball coach Ryan Ihle said of his players who have found success at the four-year level. "They came here and bet on themselves to go the junior college route, to develop and get some playing time. Ultimately, what we do here is put time in and care for them. We know they need as much development time as we can give them. So what we do is help develop them when we're trying to help them get to the next level."
