Govs shut out for second straight game

PANAMA CITY BEACH--The Wallace Govs' first game Saturday in the PCB College Classic was almost a carbon copy of Friday's game. The biggest takeaway—the Govs were once again unable to score.

Wallace has now played 14 consecutive innings and have yet to score a single run. Playing against the Eastern Florida State Titans, the Govs did manage to get four hits, but still were shut out 9-0.

Just as in Friday's game, the score was rather close until the final inning. The Govs only trailed 3-0 headed in the final inning. But the Titans scored five runs in the top of the seventh to put the game away. They did so with a combination of three hits, four walks and a bunch of stolen bases.

The Govs had inserted John LoCurto in the game to pitch. LoCurto is a side-arm throwing right-handed pitcher, and on this day he had a slow and deliberate delivery to the plate and the Titans took full advantage. Every batter that reached base not only stole second but third base as well. Locurto gave up three runs before he was removed. Jakob Lightsey came in to finish the game, but Lightsey had trouble throwing strikes. In 1/3 inning, Lightsey issued four walks, one hit, and two runs.

Jake Middleton started the game for the Govs. He only gave up one run in his two innings of work, Grant Hodges had the longest outing for the Govs. Hodges pitched four complete innings, gave up three runs before he was replaced by LoCurto.

The three hits the Govs managed were all singles, one each from Caleb Scott, Anthony Zarzana, Jeremiah Blair, and Drew Shiver. Scott was the only Gov who managed to make it to third base in the game.
