Two more Wallace Govs are off the board. This time it's a pair of pitchers from the Conference's top-ranked pitching staff.
Reigh Jordan of Headland has committed to Austin Peay while Colton Dorsey of Panama City Beach has announced his intention to play for the University of West Florida. Â Both players were part of the award-winning Wallace pitching staff.
Jordan led the ACCC with 11 wins. With an earned run average of 2.22, he was second in the Conference behind his teammate Jake Middleton. He was also second in the ACCC with 66 strikeouts in 65 innings pitched.
"I thought Austin Peay was the best fit for me," Jordan said. "I went on a visit up there and they took good care of me. They gave me all the time I needed to make my decision. I took two weeks and ultimately it just felt like home."
Jordan said he liked the atmosphere, how good the team is doing right now, and the coaches.
"The coaches like winning. They get fired up. They have a winning tradition. They've coached at some pretty good schools previously."
After graduating from Headland, Jordan played at San Jacinto in Texas before transferring Wallace.
"Wallace gave me everything I needed to be successful and go to the next level. Plus, it felt like family from the beginning. I love it here. It felt good to be at home. Wallace has meant everything to me."
And Jordan joked he just couldn't get away from the Governors. His new team at Austin Peay is also called the Governors.
Dorsey was ninth in the ACCC with five wins. He began the year as the Govs number one pitcher. But an injury kept him out of the rotation much of the year. But when he did pitch, he was outstanding.
He had an earned run average of 2.77. He struck out 44 hitters in only 39 innings. That's an average of 10.15 strikeouts per nine innings.
"UWF is a winning team," Dorsey said of his decision. "They just won their conference and it's close to home. That's what I want. I really liked the coaches. We made a connection when I first got there. We had some good conversations. The campus was really nice and had everything I wanted."
Like several of the Wallace players. Dorsey said playing in the PCB Tournament his was a highlight of his time at Wallace. But he had another reason.
"Winning that championship against Gulf Coast (his freshman year) was special because that's where my brother played. That will always stick with me. I can always talk crap to him."
Wallace baseball coach Ryan Ihle said Austin Peay and West Florida are getting two outstanding players.
"Reigh came to us from another junior college. He was a little bit lost but he found his element here being closer to home. He stepped up for us and has been a big spot in our rotation. Austin Peay is getting an absolute competitor, someone who wants the baseball, and someone who is a workhorse. There's a reason why he was conference Pitcher of the Year."
"I'm super proud of Colton," Ihle said. "He came here out of high school as one of his only offers. He worked and worked and worked. We brought him in as a two-way guy and we converted him into a pitcher, something he hadn't done a whole lot of. But he really flourished in that role. He's really going to help the pitching staff at West Florida. They are getting a good one."
