It is a pattern that has worked well for the Govs this year. It worked again Saturday.
Cason Eubanks leads off with a hit and
Reigh Jordan pitches a complete game. This time Eubanks hit was a home run and Jordan's complete game was once again a shutout. The combination led to a Wallace 7-0 win over the Coastal Alabama-North Coyotes in game one.
Then in game two
Dewey Brock kept things going on the mound before giving way to
Walker Altman who earned the save. Wallace won the game 8-3.
In his shutout, Jordan threw, struck out eight and walked only one.
With Saturday's sweep, the Govs are now 30-6 overall and 18-2 in conference play. The Govs have a two-game lead in conference play.
"We lost one to them Thursday," Jordan said after his first game performance, "and I wanted to make sure that didn't happen today. I had command of the strike zone from the beginning, mainly using my slider. But my fastball was there when I needed it."
Eubank's lead-off homer-- his seventh of the year-- provided all of the offensive support Jordan needed. But the Govs added five more in the third to put the game away.
Eubanks was right in the middle of this one too as he began the inning with a walk. That was immediately followed by a two-run homer from
Sean Darnell. Four batters later the bases were loaded when
Garrett Pate was hit by a pitch to force in a run. Two batters after that, with the bases still loaded,
Jake Smith singled to right field to bring home two more.
The Govs scored their final run just one inning later. Darnell began the inning with a triple to centerfield. That was promptly followed by an RBI single from
Grayson Ashe.
The Govs also took an early lead in game two. A two-run homer by
Ellis Yohn in the second gave them that lead.
Wallace tacked on three more in the third inning.
Brody Capps' second double of the game plated one run, while a two-RBI single from
Logan Johnson accounted for the other two.
Coastal managed to score one run off Brock in the fourth and two in the fifth before he gave way
Walker Altman. He pitched the final two innings without giving up a run or even a hit.
"In the beginning I was hitting my spots and location," Brock said. "But then I started to rush and I lost my rhythm."
The Govs will host Central Alabama this Thursday at noon in another conference double header. Central currently sits in second place.
