Wallace trounces Bishop with doubleheader sweep

Wallace dominates Bishop in doubleheader shutout

It's easy to describe what the Wallace Govs did to the Bishop State Wildcats Friday afternoon. They dominated in every facet of the game. Not only did the Govs win both games of the doubleheader, but they did so with a pair of shutouts and by winning both games by the 10-run rule.

Wallace won game one 10-0 in six innings behind Reigh Jordan's third consecutive complete game, the last two via the shutout.

The Govs really poured it on in game two, winning 16-0 in five innings. Dewey Brock pitched four of the five innings, while Colton Dorsey pitched the final inning. The only reason Dorsey pitched the last inning was to give him some work since he is coming off an injury.

"It really ticked us off that they took a game from us yesterday," Sean Darnell said. "We wanted to show them just what type of team we have. We just wanted to bury them."

Darnell certainly did his part. In the game two blowout, he was perfect at the plate. He went 4-for-4 with two doubles, two singles, and two RBIs.

The Govs put up crooked numbers in each inning they scored. Six runs were scored in the second inning and eight more in the third. The game couldn't end at that point because the two teams hadn't played the required five innings. Since they had to bat again, the Govs added two more in the bottom of the fourth.

In game one, the Govs got things rolling by scoring two runs in the first, then put things away in their last two at-bats. While the guys were taking care of business at the plate, Reigh Jordan was taking care of business on the mound.

In another case of the 'same old, same old', Cason Eubanks led off the game with a double. Grayson Ashe walked and then Warrick Wilmot singled to right field to plate Eubanks. Ashe later scored on an error when Ellis Yohn put the ball in play.

From there Reigh Jordan took over. In pitching his complete game, Jordan struck out seven, allowed four hits and didn't walk a single batter.,

Then in the fifth inning the Govs offense put some distance between themselves and Bishop by scoring six runs. The big blow was a three-run homer from Blake Wynn, the first of his collegiate career.

"First of all, I want to thank God," Wynn said. "This is so cool and it really does feel good. I'm just glad I could play a part in us getting a win."

Wilmot doubled in a run, Ashe knocked in run on a sacrifice fly, and Smith scored on a wild pitch. That put the Govs up 8-0.

The Govs ended the game early in the sixth inning by scoring two more runs. Eubanks led off with his second double of the game, Darnell walked, and Ashe single to plate run number nine. The 10th run scored on a double from Warick Wilmot.

The Govs won three of the four conference games against Bishop.  Wallace is now 23-5 overall and they lead the conference with an 11-1 record. The Govs are off until Thursday when they travel to Jasper to take on Bevill State. The return trip will be Saturday at Wallace.
