PANAMA CITY BEACH--The Wallace Govs scored the first two runs in the championship game of the PCB College Classic. But that was it.
When the Gulf Coast Commodores came to bat in the bottom of the first, they answered with six runs. The Commodores added six additional runs to claim a 12-2 victory in five innings.
The win earned the Commodores the championship of the prestigious tournament, After winning the event last year, the Govs took home the second place trophy in 2024.
"I'm proud of the way our guys played in this tournament," Coach Ryan Ihle said. "We fell short of our ultimate goal, but winning three out of four games is pretty good. This is our second straight year of making it to the championship game. There were a lot of good teams here who will go home with nothing."

The Govs got things rolling when
Cason Eubanks led off with a double to center field. After a ground out, Warwick Wilmot was hit by a pitch and
Ellis Yohn walked to load the bases. The first run scored when
Jake Smith got an infield single. Run number two scored on a ground out by
Brody Capps. That gave the Govs a 2-0 lead after a half inning of play.

But in the bottom of inning, Wallace pitcher
Caleb Muffoletto immediately ran into trouble. He gave up two doubles, three singles and a walk before recording an out. Together Muffoletto and reliever Walker Altmam faced 12 batters in the first inning alone and gave up six runs.

The Commodores would later add a single run in the fourth, two in the fifth, and three in the sixth. The game ended on a three-run homer from Jack Reynolds.

The Govs will play their first home game this Wednesday. Wallace will host Chipola at 2 pm.
