CJ Upshaw enters his fifth year as an assistant coach for the Wallace Community College Govs, where he serves as the pitching coach. After a standout high school career at Eufaula High School, Upshaw went on to play two years at Wallace-Selma, setting the stage for a successful coaching career.
Upshaw's coaching journey began in 2016 at the Lakeside School in Eufaula, where he quickly made his mark. In 2019, as an assistant coach, he helped guide all nine starters to sign college scholarships—an impressive feat that demonstrated his ability to develop talent at a high level. In 2022, he took the reins as head coach at Abbeville Christian Academy, where he led his team to a state championship in his first season and was named the AISA 1A Coach of the Year.
After a successful stint at ACA, Upshaw joined the Wallace Community College coaching staff in 2023. Since then, his influence has been evident on the mound, mentoring three ACCC Pitchers of the Year and three NJCAA All-American pitchers, including Kade Snell (2023), Reigh Jordan (2024), and Mason Koczwara (2025).
His excellence as a pitching coach has not gone unnoticed, as he was named the ACCC DII Assistant Coach of the Year in 2024, cementing his reputation as one of the top assistant coaches in the region. CJ Upshaw continues to develop pitchers who are not only successful on the field but are also prepared for the next level of competition.
