MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Wallace Community College–Dothan Governors men's golf team opens its 2026 spring season tomorrow at the Titan Winter Invitational, hosted by Eastern Florida State College at Suntree Country Club in Melbourne, Florida. The two-day, 54-hole event annually features one of the strongest early-season fields in the Southeast, providing the Governors with an immediate high-level test.
This year's tournament includes 13 programs, highlighted by several national contenders. Among the field are Mississippi Gulf Coast, the defending NJCAA Division II National Champion, along with Central Alabama, Wallace State, and host Eastern Florida State, all of whom competed at last year's national championship. The NAIA ranks are also well represented with Keiser University, a top-five finisher at the 2024 NAIA National Championship, and other strong four-year programs such as Southeastern University and Webber International
The Governors will play 36 holes on Monday, beginning with an 7:15 a.m. (central) shotgun start, followed by the final round Tuesday morning. The Classic Course at Suntree Country Club is known for its demanding layout, strategic greens, and coastal winds — conditions that will challenge every team in the field.
Head Coach Scott Stephens views the event as an ideal launching point for the spring campaign.
"This tournament always brings together elite competition, and that's exactly what we want to face right out of the gate," Stephens said. "It gives our guys a chance to see where we stand, what we're doing well, and what we need to sharpen as we move deeper into the season."
Wallace enters the week with a lineup blending experience and emerging talent. The opening event will provide valuable insight as the Governors tee off for the first time in over two decades.
