Wallace to Host First-Ever Baseball and Softball Homecoming Week
Next week, the Wallace Govs and Lady Govs will make history by celebrating the college's first-ever Homecoming Week for the baseball and softball teams.
"The reason we wanted to start this is because Wallace has never had a homecoming week," said Shaune Hardenbrook, vice president of the Diamond Dolls, the group spearheading the event. "We thought it would bring more energy and excitement to campus while making things fun for everyone."
Homecoming will be a weeklong celebration filled with themed dress-up days, special events, and exciting games.
Monday kicks off with a Pep Rally in the Courtyard at 10:50 a.m. Later that day, the baseball team will take part in a special game against a Miracle League team of special needs athletes. The game, which begins at 5 p.m., is part of the team's ongoing initiative to give back to the community.
Tuesday is Luau Day, featuring a Best-Dressed Photo Contest.
"We're encouraging all students, faculty, and staff to dress in their best luau-themed outfits and submit their photos to our PR and Marketing Department," said Mandy Sessions, Director of Institutional Effectiveness and sponsor of the Diamond Dolls. "We'll select winners from both individual and department entries, with a few prizes up for grabs."
Wednesday is all about softball. The Lady Govs will take on Gordon State at 1 p.m. Fans can enjoy a pre-game tailgate with free hot dogs, chips, and drinks. The opening ceremony, set for 12:45 p.m., will recognize all former softball players in attendance.
Thursday, the focus shifts to baseball. The Govs will face Wallace-Selma in a crucial conference doubleheader beginning at noon. A pre-game cookout will take place, and the opening ceremony will start at 11:45 a.m., with former baseball players being recognized on the field.
"The Diamond Dolls wanted to launch this homecoming tradition to boost campus spirit, increase participation at the games, and get more students involved," Hardenbrook said. "We're hoping different departments will come out to cheer on the teams, which will help bring even more energy to the games."
"These games and events are not just for students and former athletes," Sessions added. "This is for all former Wallace students and the entire community. We want everyone to come out and support our Govs and Lady Govs. So spread the word and join us for this exciting week!"
