Dews Crew Softball Camp announced

Wallace softball coach David Dews has announced the dates of his summer softball camp. The "Dews Crew Softball Camp" will be held on July 16-18. There will be two separate sessions.

The first session will be held in the mornings from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. This one will be for ages 7-12. The afternoon session is from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and is for ages 13-18. Both camps will be held on the softball field on the campus of Wallace Community College. The cost of either camp is $100.

"We're going to teach them the fundamentals and the techniques of softball," Dews said. "We'll be teaching them a lot of the things I learned growing up playing baseball from people like Ron Frazier and Chase Riddle."

"But we'll also be teaching them a lot more. We'll be teaching them things like teamwork and the mental parts of the game. We've put together a good staff that will be able to go into the depth of the game."

Dews said the afternoon session will be more advanced. That's because they will be dealing with older kids who are further along with their softball skills and understanding the game. And since they are older, he'll also be evaluating them on their talent level and skills.

Dews is an excellent teacher. In addition to being the head softball coach at Wallace, he's taken seven different teams to World Series games at various levels of competition. In his first year at Wallace, he picked up his 700th overall win and led his squad to the NJCAA South District Tournament.
