The Wallace Lady Govs now know who they will be playing in the NJCAA Division II South District Softball Tournament. The Lady Govs will begin tournament play Thursday, May 9 at 3 p.m. against St. Johns River of Florida.
This district tournament features five teams from Alabama and three from Florida. The tournament will be played in Alabaster at Veterans Park. The five-field complex recently underwent a beautiful renovation. Wallace begins play on Field 4.
The Lady Govs enter this tournament on a hot streak. The Lady Govs won their last 12 games to finish with a record of 24-20 and 19-13 in conference play. Should Wallace win the first game, they will play again at 5:30 on Thursday on Field 4. Should they lose, they will still play at 5:30 but on Field 5.
The St. Johns River Vikings come into the tournament with a record of 44-14. They are the champions of the Sun-Lakes Conference with a conference record of 26-4. Head coach Joe Pound was named the FCSAA Coach of the Year. The team also features eight All-Conference players.
Other teams in the tournament are Central Alabama, Bevill State, South Florida, Bishop State, Marion Military, and Lake Sumter of Florida.
According to officials in Alabaster, a pass for the entire tournament is $20. A daily pass is $15, Parking is free.
