Lady Govs sweep CVCC to remain alive

So far, so good. The Wallace Lady Govs needed to win 12 consecutive games in order to have a chance of making it to the district tournament. They have completed one-third of the task.

Tuesday afternoon Wallace completed the four game sweep of Chattahoochee Valley when they won both games of a doubleheader. The Lady Govs won the first game 8-4 and ended game two in six innings with a 12-4 win.

"I like how we played today," head coach David Dews said. "We played hard. We played like we're supposed to play."

As for the playoff scenario, Dews said "Right now I believe we are one game ahead of Enterprise (for the fifth and final spot). We've just got to keep doing what we're doing."

Coincidentally, the Lady Govs will face Enterprise this Thursday and Saturday.

As for Tuesday's games, it felt like it was Savannah Jenkins Day. Jenkins hit three home runs—one in the second game and two in the first, each coming at crucial times.

In game two, the Pirates had just scored three runs and closed the scoring gap to 6-4. But in the fifth inning, Jenkins' three run homer took the momentum away and Wallace never let up. The Govs added three more runs in the sixth inning to end the game early.

"I felt real comfortable today," Jenkins said. "That first home run felt really good because we were trailing at the time. It tied the game up and it gave us a chance to win."

The Lady Govs quickly fell behind in the first game. But from the second inning on they rolled thanks in large part to the two homers from Jenkins. She hit a solo home run in the bottom of the second to tie the game at 1-1.

After that home run, Wallace took the lead in the third inning when Elly Castle hit a ground out that plated Joanna Marshall. Wallace then added two more runs in the 4th inning on RBI singles from Caroline Armstrong and Reagan Tomlin. Jenkins hit the second home run in the fifth inning to put the Govs up 6-1. An RBI single from Castle and an RBI single from Olivia Elliott scored the Govs eighth run of the game.

Chattahoochee Valley made an attempt to come back in the 7th inning. The Govs committed a pair of errors and a run scoring wild pitch which enabled the Pirates to score three runs. But they could get no closer.

"That intensity Is going to pick up Thursday," Dews said of the Enterprise game. "I'm ready for it."
