Cliff Carter

Cliff Carter was named the Head Cross Country Coach at Wallace Community College following an accomplished coaching career that includes 13 years of experience in the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA). Carter brings a proven record of championship success, student-athlete development, and a commitment to academic achievement to the Wallace Community College Governors.

Carter spent the past eight years as the Head Cross Country and Track Coach at Providence Christian School in Dothan, where his programs established themselves among the most successful in the state. During his tenure, Providence Christian captured eight AHSAA Cross Country State Championships, including four girls' championships and four boys' championships. Those titles came across multiple classifications, including three championships in 3A, four in 4A, and one in 5A.

Carter also guided Providence Christian to two state championships in track, with the girls winning both the indoor and outdoor state titles. His teams also earned two state runner-up finishes, including the boys in indoor track and the girls in outdoor track.

In addition to athletic success, Carter has placed a strong emphasis on academic achievement and the development of well-rounded student-athletes. During his tenure at Providence Christian, the program graduated the salutatorian from the school's most recent graduating class, as well as the valedictorians from the two graduating classes prior.

Carter's coaching career began at American Christian Academy in Tuscaloosa, where he served as an Assistant Cross Country and Track Coach from 2013 to 2017. During his time there, he was part of programs that captured three girls' Cross Country State Championships in 2014 and three boys' Cross Country State Championships in 2015 and 2016. American Christian also won multiple indoor and outdoor track state championships during Carter's tenure.

In 2017, Carter joined Legacy Therapy and Wellness in Dothan as a Physiologist and Gait Analyst, a position he held through 2021. His background in physiology and gait analysis provides an additional foundation for his approach to developing athletes and maximizing their physical potential.

Carter returned to Providence Christian School as Development Director from 2021 to 2023 and has served as the school's Athletic Director since 2023, in addition to his coaching responsibilities.

Carter's coaching philosophy centers on developing student-athletes who strive to use their God-given abilities and opportunities to the fullest. His programs emphasize competing at the highest level each athlete is capable of while maintaining a strong commitment to academic success and personal development.

As he begins his tenure at Wallace Community College, Carter brings a championship pedigree and a holistic approach to student-athlete development as he works to establish the Governors Cross Country program as a competitive force at the collegiate level.
